Promoting Democracy: Can democracy be exported? by Larry Diamond. The U.S. has had a history of advancing and supporting democracy around the world. What place does democracy promotion have in U.S. foreign policy today? With a choice of tools ranging from economic aid to military force, what are the appropriate yet effective methods that the U.S. should use to promote democracy? Great Decisions Discussion Group is composed of interested individuals who want an opportunity to learn and participate in the foreign policy decision-making process. The Foreign Policy Association has put together a Great Decisions Briefing Book. This well researched annual publication provides eight timely global topics to be read by the group participants.

Please sign up on line or by phoning the front desk. Work books may be purchased from the library for $10 -$20 from FPA-. A limited number of free copies may be available for students. At each meeting we will show a very short PBS documentary film that goes with each subject. We will have a copy of the DVD available for overnight check out. Video will be shown at 7 pm. Discussion begins at 7:30 pm This series is presented with support from the League of Women Voters.
