Summer Institute Film Series Presents: Budrus
Budrus is a West Bank village with about 1,500 people and twice as many olive trees, which provide the residents’ livelihood. The separation barrier that Israel is building will require uprooting the trees. This thought-provoking 2009 documentary by Julia Bacha follows the story of Ayed Morrar, the leader who mobilizes his village and Israeli peace activists to peacefully protest against the wall. Success eludes the protestors until Morrar’s 15-year-old daughter jumps into the fray, involving the women of town.
Without indulging in self-complacency or romanticizing peace, Budrus shows how successful the actions of this peacemaker are in the Palestinian community.
