In connection with the Museum’s ongoing exhibit, From Concept to Canvas: Selected Works of Stanley Murphy, noted Island artists and friends come together to discuss the life, work and influence of the painter. Stan Murphy (1922-2003) represents different things to different people. Murphy was an artist who captured the essence of the Island that he loved in the faces of his friends and neighbors, the landscapes in which he lived and worked, and the animals that inhabited them. He was also a neighbor and a friend that offered respect and support, and was a deeply involved member of the community. In a place that not only allows but nearly insists that a person wear many hats, Stan was all of these things.
