The sixth annual Della Hardman Day celebration sponsored by the Town of Oak Bluffs will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 in Ocean Park. This special day celebrates the of the life of one of Oak Bluffs' Grand Dames. Della Hardman, PhD, artist, educator and writer, was a beloved resident of Martha's Vineyard for nearly 20 years prior to her death in 2005. Following a career in higher education as chairperson of the Art Department at West Virginia State College, she retired to the Vineyard and became actively involved in community life there. A series of cultural and educational programs are being planned for the 2010 celebration by the Della Hardman Day Committee comprised of year-round and seasonal residents.
