Fun Facts: Alpacas are shorn 1x per year in the Spring. Each alpaca produces 3-13 lbs of fiber depending on age, genetics, environment & nutrition. Alpacas can be shorn standing up or stretched out on the groun or a table. We prefer to stretch them out, tying the front legs & the back legs. This allows the shearer to work faster & get a more even cut, plus it is less stressful for the alpaca. Shearing time varies greatly by shearer expertise, but is usually 10 mins/animal.
