Strella is an extraordinary and spellbinding postmodern Greek tragedy set in the glowing nights of Athens. On his first night after being released from fifteen years in prison, Yiorgos meets Strella, a young transsexual prostitute. The good-hearted Strella sings in a low-rent cabaret and generally looks out for waifs and strays. But the past is catching up with Yiorgos. With Strella on his side he will have to find a new way out. Riffing on Greek mythology, and crossing lines most filmmakers wouldn’t dare approach, Panos Koutras courageously defies the taboos of the ancients in this gut-wrenching yet surprisingly uplifting film.
