Finally!! One of the very best Island winter experiences is almost here.
The Martha's Vineyard Film Festival at the Chilmark Community Center will be held March 12-14. This event is like Sundance on the Island--only better. The CCC is transformed with couches, curtains and who knows what and the line up of screenings is provocative, thought provoking and enriching. Don't miss this one. Tickets are on sale now and moving fast. I'm going to get mine now. See you there!
While some of event promoters are still finalizing their 2010 schedules, the majority of 2010 events are now posted on TicketsMV.com and we have opened the schedule to display through August.
Plan your summer 2010 vacation now and time it with your favorite Island happenings. Know of something that's going on that's not on our schedule? Have great photos from an event we have online from last year that you would like us to post on the site? Just email us at events@ticketsmv.com.
It's cold and snowy here now, but before we know it we'll be playing in the surf and dancing under the stars.
It's school vacation week on the Vineyard (a week after the rest of MA) and what is typically a quiet time, becomes even more quiet. But there are still things to do. Explore the beauty of nature in winter and you will begin to see signs of spring poking through the small blanket of snow. Comb the beach for beach glass and shells, enjoy a cup of coco at Motts or Espresso Love.
The Martha's Vineyard Film Festival is just a few weeks away and there are some fun and interesting films, talks and activities happening until then. We're hoping to have the film schedule for the Festival this week, so check back soon.
Just like nature, the Vineyard is quietly recharging for what is going to be an amazing summer season.
Mid-winter is the ideal time for going to the movies. A great excuse to pull yourself out of that pit you've been carving on the couch . Plus, now is definitely escape-from-reality time.
Two of the libraries are running film series this month. On Monday nights the West Tisbury library will be celebrating Black History month with a different landmark African-American movie each week.
And the Edgartown library is featuring Academy Award winners every Tuesday.
The MV Film Society should be applauded for offering interesting films throughout the year. Their Feb schedule looks particularly good and includes a film set on the Vineyard this Saturday. "A Place of Our Own" chronicles life in the African-American resort community of Oak Bluffs throughout the 60s and 70s.
Immerse yourself in the magic of the movies this month and next as The Martha's Vineyard Film Festival takes over the Chilmark Community Center once again.
Enjoying movie mania now will lead you right up to the excitement of Oscar night in March.
See you at the movies!
If you're looking for a gathering spot to enjoy Superbowl XLIV -head over to sports bar Seasons and enjoy the camaraderie, 16 televisions, $5 appetizers and a raffle for a HUGE HD TV. Not to be biased, but GO SAINTS!
This weekend also features the beginning of the second program of the Fourth Grade Theater Project. Whether you know someone involved or not, the short plays written and performed each year by kids are a real treat.
The project, which takes place each winter, is a fully kid-produced event. The fourth graders of each school, under the guidance of MJ Bruder-Munafo and Kate Hancock, spend six weeks conceiving, writing, rehearsing, designing costumes and sets, mastering lights and sound and promoting and selling ads and tickets.
This Saturday, the Tisbury School kids will present two one-act plays and next weekend's program will feature students of the West Tisbury School. The shows are always very professionally done, clever and charming. I recommend checking out one or both performances.
